Happy Valley Scrub Fire

A large scrub fire in Wellington started and 70 residents had to evacuate from their homes.

A Fire fighter for Wellington Brett Locker said the fire covered a very big area and about 30 houses had to be evacuated as the fire threatened to spread.  Three helicopters with monsoon buckets were used to fight the fire.  Luckily for the fire fighters the wind changed direction and the fire blew away from Happy Valley.  Nearly all of the 70 residents slept in the emergency evacuation centre. Mr Locker said the cause of the fire was under investigation.  The fire was close to the valleys landfill and fire fighters think the blaze started at 2 am.

I feel angry at the person who started the blaze because they could have killed heaps of people.

Reflecting on my Silhouette Painting 1. Are you pleased with your Silhouette painting? why / why not? Yes, because I tried very hard and it worked out in the end. 2. What did you find easy when you created your silhouette painting? I found painting the sunset the easiest. 3. What part did you find tricky when you were creating your Silhouette painting? -think about blending of colours, tracing round your animal and painting within your animal. The blending of colours when I was painting my sunset,tracing around my animal and painting within my animal. 4. Who / What helped you when you were painting? The teachers examples helped me in making my Silhouette. 5. What would you do differently next time? Think about: blending of colours, animal choice, presentation. Next time I would choose my animal differently and choose a more simple animal like a Mountain Goat, because it would be boring to do the same animal again. 6. What frustrated you when you created your Silhouette painting? The tracing frustrated me because it would not show on my sunset.

Over the holidays I helped my grandparents move houses from Mangatawhiri to a retirement home in Tuakau until their new house is built.

In room 5 I would like to achieve multiplying and dividing negative numbers.
