Summer Learning Journey Week 1 Day 2 Activity 2

For this activity we have to decide whether we think Bull fighting should be banned in Spain. I think it should be banned, because both the person and the bull could get hurt. For instance, if the Bull ran straight into the person running around and stabbed them, everybody would be angry or sad that they got injured, but if the Bull got hurt by running into the side of the arena nobody would care. This shows that how the Bull feels about the sport is not taken into account. Another reason is that nowhere else in the world holds Bull fighting as a sport, except for Spain, showing that maybe the other countries think it's a bad idea, which is why they don't do it.

Kia ora Thomas,

Thank you for sharing your opinion about bullfighting. You have explained yourself very well and I really like that you have described why you think bullfighting should be banned.

I agree with you, I think that bullfighting should be banned. As well as being very dangerous for the matadors who take part, did you know that the bulls are cruelly mistreated prior to the fight to make it easier for the matador? This often makes it much easier for the matador to hurt the bulls and win the fight, which I don't think is nice (or fair) at all!

Often people will continue to do things because they think that people have always done it that way so they should too. Like in bullfighting, many people still encourage it because it has been a big tradition in their culture and country. But I think it's very important to always think about what the right thing for you to do might be, regardless of what anyone else says or thinks, especially when people and animals are getting hurt.

This is a very well written argument Thomas. Well done!

Cheers,
Dan.

Hey Thomas
I also agree with you. Bull fighting is a dangerous sport where someone could get very badly injured. Nice job.
Daniel
