Today we continued on our Multi-Modal task on Godwits. We had started off our research on migration yesterday by writing down some questions using the 5 W's and the H, and words like will, could, are, etc. The next activity we did today was about travel, (since migration is basically animal travel) and we used our prior knowledge (what we already know) to write down some ways we travel today, some ways humans travelled thirty years ago and some ways human travelled one hundred years ago, as well as some problems that would have come with the transport, such as for planes today, a delay for them taking off. Another activity we started was a reciprocal reading task about Godwits. We only got up to the prediction stage and will continue with it after.

Wright brothers Main idea

This is my DLO on a Wright brothers text which is about how they were the first to achieve controlled flight. We found out the main idea of the text and then read the bullet points to find out three facts that supported the main idea. I chose three facts that were related to how they improved their plane and how they became interested in flight.

A cool story about Antarctic fish

Today in Miss K's reading group the Takahe read a short story about the Antarctic Cod, a fish that can survive in the extreme cold. We learnt about antifreeze's, proteins that stop water molecules from attaching into each other, which causes ice crystals to form. We learnt that the Antarctic Cod lowers its freezing point, which makes it harder for the water in it to freeze.

Inferring game

Today I played an Inferring game in which I read a letter and had to infer what type of person they were and where they were moving to. I used my inferring skills to find out that the person lived in Arizona.

Current Events DLO

This is my DLO on the current event where Ed Sheeran is being taken to a court in America after the singer/songwriter Matt Cardle accused him of copying his song Amazing to make his song Photograph.

Hot Money Novel Study

This is a screen-shot of the prediction of the novel I am studying at the moment (Hot Money). I have predicted that the story is set in the present, and it will be about someone stealiong some money and hiding it.

Bias definition

This week we learnt about bias. Bias is when you only show one side of a story, which is very unfair. We found out that newspapers include bias the most. We read a piece of writing that was about musicians, which explained that normally for symphonies men were chosen more than women, so they made all auditions blind and sometimes make people take off their shoes as women's and men's shoes sound different.

Current Events: Auckland Bus drivers go on strike

This is Latham's and my DLO on the Auckland bus drivers strike that happened on the 19th of February at 4am to the 20th of February at 4am. For one part we had to write down the opinions of the bus drivers and the opinions of the bus users and say why they felt that way. We got our information from http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/industries/76913982/Auckland-bus-strike-what-you-need-to-know and we came to the conclusion that the author wanted us top know that when people are unhappy with their working conditions or their pay then they will do something to get the public's attention and to make a change.

A benifit of reading
