PBS Flag Votes data comparison

This is my google drawing showing the two graphs I made regarding the votes that PBS made on whether we should or shouldn't change the flag. The final vote tally shows that PBS went with the nation and has decided to keep the current flag. I am happy with what PBS and NZ voted for as I wanted to keep the current flag as well. The only down for me is that 27 million dollars was wasted when it could have been used for something more important such as schools and educations. Also, it would have cost even more to change everything with the current flag and it would have disrespected the people who died under it.

Group Two's Mentos and Coke experiment movie

This is Group Two's movie that shows a re-enactment of the experiment we did dropping a Mentos into a bottle of Coke. We followed a scientific experiment process by making a hypothesis each before we started and by recounting what we saw at the end. We also used a video from youtube for the reaction footage.

Which flag will you vote for?

This is a picture of the two flags that you can vote for. Today Mrs Anderson got us into our thinking groups and told us to think of reasons why we should change the flag and why we shouldn't change it. When the new flag is chosen, I will make a blog post on which flag I chose and why.

Emotion Orientation

Fear:
Bang! The sound of the door slamming was loud enough to shatter your eardrums. Caroline's hair stood straight, as if she had been struck by lightning. She runs into a room and slams the door behind her. A dark shadow looms behind her, and Caroline's piercing scream cuts through the air.

Disgust:
"Everybody run!"
"Save yourself!"
The desperate screams of the students were audible as the repugnant smell wafted through the class and even the teacher was running. Johnny looked down at the bottom of his shoe and saw it. His day was about to become much worse...

These are the two orientations Harry and I wrote for the two emotions of disgust and fear. We tried to use show not tell and simple sentences and even included some dialogue. We used the sense of hearing in the fear orientation and the sense of smell in the disgust orientation. There were different emotions and in the picture it shows them and some adjectives and said words for them.

Maths

This is a rounding decimals game that we played as part of Ms Kirkpatrick's tasks. As well as knowing what the decimals rounded up to, we had to be accurate in our shooting.

Science

These are the experiments that group 2 did last week. We first did the baking soda and vinegar experiment, in which we filled a little plastic cup with baking soda and then poured vinegar on it. For the Oobleck experiment, we mixed water with cornstarch to make the Non-Newtonian liquid.

Writing Prompt continued

The boys sat together thinking about the poor man. They were sorry that things had happened the way they had, and they still felt a little bit guilty - they hadn't meant for anything bad to happen. Jack sighed. He had learnt the hard way that it wasn't always a good idea to go with the crowd and he wouldn't be making the same mistake again.

...Three weeks earlier, Jack had been walking to the shop with a group of his friends. As they passed the old railway bridge, they had spotted what looked like a bundle of clothes next to a rusty, old bin. Jack stared at the rags intently, until, to his surprise he saw a pair of eyes blinking back at him. He hurried on, to catch up to his friends.

Continued part:
When Jack got home that day, he couldn't help but think of those eyes staring back at him. He barely touched his dinner, thinking about that poor man all by himself and wondering whether he would eat tonight, or even tomorrow. When he had done his homework, he lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep.

Maths Show me

This is the show me that Shannon and I made on a maths problem using the LS2 Ipad.

Home Learning T1 W5

These are the DLO of AJ's and my home learning this week. This time though, the focus is a painting, not a building. As you can probably see, we had to make a DLO on the Mona Lisa. But AJ and I thought that was too easy, so we included some facts about the artist, Leonardo Da Vinci.

Using DRAFT

Stretched sentence:

Who: The boy laughed.

What: The boy laughed hysterically.

When: In the evening the boy laughed hysterically.

Where: At the campfire in the evening the boy laughed hysterically.

Why: At the campfire in the evening, the boy laughed hysterically after seeing his friend slip in the mud and fall on his face.

At the campfire in the evening, the boy laughed hysterically after seeing his friend slip in the mud and land on his face.

This is AJ's and my stretched sentences. We started off with: The boy laughed. and ended up with: At the campfire in the evening, the boy laughed hysterically after seeing his friend slip in the mud and fall on his face. We then used DRAFT to make it better
